Acre 121 $10 Burger, BBQ & Beer special offered on 10/1 for government workers.

Chef Jose Andres restaurants are offering free sandwiches for federal workers at his Jaleo restaurants in Chinatown, Crystal City and Bethesda. Andres will also offer sandwiches at his other Chinatown restaurants, Oyamel and Zaytinya.

The Daily Dish is offering one free cup of coffee to federal workers.

Del Campo: The regular happy hour ($7 margaritas and cocktails, $5 wine, $4 beers) will be available at any point during the day to any government employee with a valid ID.

DC Reynolds: Each day the government is closed, DC Reynolds will open at 11 a.m. and offer buy-one, get-one-free drinks until 9 p.m. You don’t need to be a government worker to take advantage of this outstanding offer.

Duffy’s Irish Pub: Show your federal ID for $2 beers (Miller Lite, Natty Boh, Coors Light or PBR tallboys) after 10 p.m. every night during the shutdown.

Granville Moore’s: $1 Food & Drink Specials

Kangaroo Boxing Club:  Will open at noon and serve $3 Screwdrivers all day. Show a federal ID and your first drink is on the house.

Kramer Books: Happy hour prices offered until closing: $5 all beers, rail drinks; house wine at the bar only for federal workers.

Marvin’s:  Stella will be on special. Prices keep rising just like our deficit!

Meridian Pint: Three local brews priced at $5 until 5 p.m. Anyone with a valid federal ID receives 10 percent off their tab until 5 p.m

Mockingbird Hill: All government employees receive one free glass of sherry when they display a federal ID.

Nando’s: Free Butterflied Breast for furloughed Federal Employees at Nando’s on 10/1.

National Geographic Museum: Free Admission all day. ($11 value). Not valid for groups of 10 or more.

The National Museum of Women in the Arts will stay open as usual and offer free admission to federal employees who show ID.

The Philips Collection will be open and offering free admission for everyone to their permanent collection from Tuesday through Friday.

Sixth and I Historic Synogogue will transform into “Shutdown Central” for the duration of the shutdown. It will offer free food, coffee and wifi to not just federal workers, but everyone. They’re planning some fun stuff such as a “The West Wing” marathon, and games of “Political Ping Pong”

Sophie’s Cuban D.C.: Offering three empanadas with any purchase with Proof of a Government ID starting Thursday, October 3.

Show your government  ID at Sprinkles and you can get a free cupcake Tuesday.

Sticky Rice: Half-price sushi and American beers.

Sixth & I  Anyone looking for space is welcome. Will be a West Wing marathon, 30 Rock and free coffee and snacks starting at 10am

Z-Burger:  Z Burger’s four locations in Arlington, Columbia Heights, Tenleytown and Southwest will give a burger to furloughed federal government and D.C. government employees, with an ID, for the length of the shutdown. Z Burger will be giving out the free burgers each day during the lunch rush from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and again at dinner time 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.


Cupcake Boulevard: One free cupcake to Federal employees affected by the shutdown from 1-3pm Tues-Fri. Must show Fed. ID

On 10/1, The Daily Dish in Silver Spring will give all government workers a free cup of regular coffee, no purchase necessary.

The National Zoo may be closed, but the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore is open Tuesday and is free for all from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Redwood Bethesda Happy hour drink specials available all day with government ID $4 and $5 cocktails, draft beer and wine options.


Fibre Space in Old Town Alexandria will offer free “intro to knitting” classes (normally $75) for government workers or contractors with ID. The classes will take place from 1-5 p.m. on every workday that the federal government is closed. Bring needles and yarn, or buy some at the session.

Osteria Marzano:  Half off select pizzas, $3 drafts, and $4 house cocktails. M-F: 4-7

Ireland’s Four Courts: Happy hour will be extended from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Pintango Gelato: Pintago offers two-for-one coffees starting Tuesday until October 6.

All furloughed government employees (except members of Congress) can get one free pulled pork sandwich per day of the shutdown at Pork Barrel BBQ Restaurant in Alexandria.

Port City Brewing Company: Twenty percent discounts on draft pints and growlers of Essential Pale Ale to all. The Tasting Room will also open early at 4 on Wednesday.

Time Out Wings:  Show your government ID and receive 15% OFF all food purchases. Only at TIME OUT Herndon.

Z-Burger:  Federal and DC workers who show a government ID will be treated to a burger at the Arlington, Tenleytown, Southwest, and Columbia Heights locations starting Tuesday from 11 to 1 and 5 to 7.
