DC’s has new drunk driving laws starting August 1st. I wanted to simplify them a tad bit.
Driving Drunk is definitely not cool.
Effective August 1st.
First Offender: Penalty goes from a $300 fine and up to 90 days in jail to a $1,000 fine and up to 180 days in jail.
Add in a mandatory five days in jail, if you’re driving drunk with a child in the vehicle.
Repeat Offenders: Mandatory 10 days in jail.
Commercial Vehicle Drivers: The blood alcohol limit will be .04 percent and will be subject to a mandatory five days minimum in jail. In addition to any other penalty they receive.
Driver with a blood alcohol limit of .30 percent or higher faces at least 20 days in jail.
